Shaded Seats at Lambeau Field

Lambeau Field stands as the historic home of the Green Bay Packers. Known as one of the most storied stadiums in the NFL, it hosts some of the most passionate fans in football. Lambeau is also known as the “Frozen Tundra” and fans attending games later in the season might seek sunny spots to stay warm, while those attending sunnier fall games might look for shade. This guide will help by identifying the shaded seats at Lambeau Field.

Where Are the Seats in the Shade and Sun at Lambeau Field?

Generally speaking, shaded seats at Lambeau Field are:

• South End Zone: Shaded for early day games
• West (Home) Sideline: Shaded for late-afternoon games

And sunny seats at Lambeau Field are mainly:

• East Sideline: Exposed to the sun until late in the day
• North End Zone: Sunny for most of the afternoon

Green Bay is in the Central time zone, and Packers games kick off locally at either noon or 3:25 PM to accommodate the NFL’s national television schedule. The Packers also occasionally host national Sunday night or Monday night games where shade and sun are less of a concern. Lambeau Field Orientation to the Sun

Lambeau Field is oriented north to south. By noon, the sun is high above and behind the south end zone. Over the course of the afternoon, it dips behind the west (home) side of the stadium and eventually sets closer to the north end zone. This configuration makes the south side of the stadium the “shade side” early in the day, and the west sideline the “shade side” later in the afternoon. The east sideline is the universal sunny side of the stadium.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Early Afternoon Lambeau Field Games

Lambeau Field is one of the oldest and most historic stadiums in the NFL. It has nevertheless undergone several renovations over the years, including a major south end zone expansion for the 2012 season. This renovation included the addition of a new video board and thousands of additional seats behind the south end zone.

With the sun shining from the south, the shaded seats early in the afternoon are those behind the south end zone. Look for shade in any of the sections between 131-138, 340-354, 432-450, 630-648, or 730-750. These sections should remain shaded throughout an early afternoon game, even as the sun rotates around the southwest corner of the stadium. By the 4th quarter, additional sections like 126, 128, and 130 will become shaded as well.

During an early afternoon game, seats on the east (visitor’s) side of the stadium and behind the north end zone are sunny. Sections 103-113 will get the earliest blast of sun. Odd-numbered field level sections between 100-127 and odd-numbered upper-level sections 403-427 are the sunniest places in the stadium. During the cold winter months, these sections may be preferable to those in the shade!

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Late Afternoon Lambeau Field Games

When the Packers are scheduled for a 3:25 PM game, it’s quite a bit easier to find a seat in the shade. For late-afternoon games, seats behind the south end zone remain shaded, and seats on the west (home) side of the field become shaded as well. Lambeau Field uses a different numbering system than most NFL stadiums, placing even-numbered sections on the west (home) side and odd-numbered sections on the east (visitor) side. Make sure to double check your section number before purchasing tickets.

By the second half of a late afternoon game, the sun will dip behind the west side of the stadium, providing additional shade to seats behind the north end zone. Once the shade line crosses the field, odd-numbered sections on the east (visitor) side will become shaded, starting with seats closest to the field and making their way up. Upper-level odd-numbered sections 407-431 will be in the path of the sun’s rays the longest, through sunset.
