Shaded Seats at Kyle Field

Kyle Field, famous as the “Home of the 12th Man,” is one of college football’s most exciting and intimidating stadiums. It is the home of the Texas A&M Aggies and is known for its massive capacity and devoted fanbase. College Station generally has a hot and humid climate, so Aggies fans should use this guide along with the stadium’s seating chart to identify the shaded seats at Kyle Field.

Where Are the Seats in the Shade and Sun at Kyle Field?

As a general rule, the seats in the shade at Kyle Field:

• West Sideline: Mid-afternoon shade is on the Aggies’ home side
• Under Cover: Shaded in seats under a canopy or overhang

And the seats in the sun at Kyle Field are mainly:

• East Sideline: Sun soaked on the away team’s side
• End Zones: Sunny for much of the day

Kyle Field Orientation to the Sun

Kyle Field is oriented northwest to southeast. By noon, the sun is high in the sky over the south end zone. Over the course of the afternoon, it dips behind the west side of the stadium and eventually sets near the northwest corner. This configuration generally makes the west side of the stadium the “shade side,” while the east side is the sunniest. The end zones are sunny for day games but become shaded for evening games.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Early Afternoon Kyle Field Games

Kyle Field is a historic stadium that has undergone many renovations and expansions over the years. Its current configuration features multiple seating tiers on all sides of the field. There are also plenty of club seats and luxury suites for Aggies fans willing to splurge. A short roof extends from the upper deck on both sidelines, providing cover for about half the seats in those tiers. Seats behind the end zones have no cover and are exposed to the elements.

Shade is limited at Kyle Field early in the day. When the Aggies kick off in the late morning or around noon, the sun is high above the south end zone. Your best bet for shade at this time is to find a seat under cover. The last eight rows of Sections 130-134 are covered and shaded, though these are often part of the student-only section. Zone Club sections (sections that start with “Z”) are also covered and comfortably shaded. If you don’t mind the nosebleeds, the back half of Sections 330-338 and 401-408 are under a small roof. The west (home) side sections are preferable to those on the opposite side of the field, as the west side becomes the shade side later in the day.

The sunniest seats are on the east (away) side of the stadium and behind the north end zone. Barring a cloudy day, all rows in Sections 115-128, 230-238, 314-329, and 409-421 are in the direct path of the sun. Field-level seats on all sides of the field are fairly sun-soaked, with the exception of maybe the last few rows.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Late Afternoon and Evening Kyle Field Games

When the Aggies kick off in the middle of the afternoon, Kyle Field has quite a bit more shade, and it’s easier to find. At the start of a 2:30 or 3:00 PM game, the sun is making its descent behind the west (home) side of the stadium. Shade seekers should focus their search on west sideline Sections FB1-FB13, AC1-AC12, 301-313, and 401-408. Fans in these sections have the sun at their backs, with shade covering their seats as it dips behind the stadium structure. Zone Club sections (sections that start with “Z”) are also covered and shaded.

The sunniest seats are on the east (away team) side of the stadium, in Sections 123-128, 230-238, and 330-338. Be especially careful with the upper deck at this time of day. Even though the back half of these seats are covered and were shaded earlier, as the sun rotates around the stadium, fans up here will have the sun pointed directly in their eyes.

Seats behind the end zones start mid-afternoon games in the sun, but as the shade line crosses the field, they begin to become shaded as well. For evening games, end zones should be relatively safe from the sun for all or most of the game. On the east side of the stadium, seats closest to the field will become shaded first, and the shade line will move upward. 100-level seats will become shaded before the 200 level, and the 300 level will remain sunniest the longest.
