The Texas Rangers moved to the brand new Globe Life Field in 2020. The previous home, the similarly named Globe Life Park, was notoriously known as one of the hottest ballparks in the majors. The Dallas Metroplex has brutally hot and humid summers, and unlike the other Texas ballpark, Globe Life Park was an open air stadium. The good news is that Rangers fans will find some relief under the retractable dome of Globe Life Field. But for days when they open the roof, they can use this guide to find the shaded seats at Globe Life FIeld.
Where are the shaded seats at Globe Life Field?
As a general rule, the seats in the shade at Globe Life Field are located:
- On the 3rd base side of the park
- In sections 27, 28 and the back half of sections 29-33
- In sections 233-237 and 322-326 for early afternoon games
The Rangers play a mix of night games, early afternoon games and mid-afternoon games. Weeknight home games typically start at 7:05 p.m. and weekday getaway games at 1:05 p.m. First pitch on Sunday is usually 1:35 p.m. Saturday games are the most variable, with a mix of 3:05 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. start times.

Globe Life Field Orientation to the Sun
Globe Life Field is oriented to the northeast, the most common MLB ballpark orientation. This means that the sun rises every morning behind right field and sets in the evening near the left field corner. The graphic below shows the approximate location of the sun throughout the day on July 1st (halfway through the MLB season).

Seats in the Shade at Rangers Early Afternoon Games
For an early afternoon game, the Texas sun is high in the sky at first pitch, positioned on the 1st base side of the ballpark. For the first few innings, the only shaded seats are those under direct cover. If you don’t mind the nosebleeds, sections 233-237 and 322-326 in right field will get shade from the roof structure above, even when the roof is open. In left field, lower-level sections 27 and 28 behind the visitor’s bullpen are under cover. The back rows of sections 29-33 benefit from a generous overhang as well.
As the game progresses, the sun will shift behind home plate and then begin to set down the 3rd baseline. Seats near home plate farther back from the field will start to get some shade as the sun moves across the afternoon sky. The the last few innings those in rows far back on the 3rd baseline will start to receive shade as well.
Seats in the Shade at Rangers Late Afternoon Games
When the Rangers keep the roof open for a late afternoon game, you’ll want to stick to the 3rd base side of the park for shade. Field level seats close to the field will get the most sun, so avoid the single digit sections 1-13. For sections higher up, pick a row farther back in the section. Upper level sections 301-315 will benefit from the cover provided by the roofing structure above. In left field, lower-level sections 27 and 28 behind the bullpen and back rows of sections 29-33 will mostly be safe from the sun as well.
Seats in the Shade at Rangers Evening Games
Finding shade for an evening game is relatively easy. For a 7:05 game, most rows in 3rd base sections will get shade from the first pitch. For earlier 6:05 games, seats in single digit sections 1-13 will be in the sun for an inning or two but will quickly find relief as the sun sinks behind the ballpark. Seats in sections 101-113 will get shade for most of the game.
