Credit One Stadium, located in Charleston, South Carolina, is a versatile multi-purpose outdoor venue primarily known for hosting the Charleston Open tennis tournament in the spring. As a tennis venue it is notable for its unique green clay court. During the summer, the stadium transitions into a concert venue, featuring a range of musical acts. Given Charleston’s reputation for heat and humidity, finding shade is crucial, whether attending a tennis match or a concert. This guide will help visitors pinpoint the best shaded seats at Credit One Stadium.
Where Are the Seats in the Shade and Sun at Credit One Stadium?
Generally, shaded seats at Credit One Stadium are located:
- Baseline, South Side: Covered seats are shaded all day
- Sideline, West Side: Shaded during late afternoon and evening
During the Charleston Open, tennis matches start as early as 11:00 AM. Summer concerts at the stadium are typically scheduled for early evening. However, during the longest days of the year, sunset in Charleston isn’t until after 8:30 PM. Seating Chart Tip: On the Credit One Stadium seating map the chair umpire (gray square) is on the west sideline, a useful landmark for orienting sections.
Credit One Stadium Orientation to the Sun
The orientation of Credit One Stadium is north-to-south, which means that around 1:00 PM, the sun is almost directly overhead. As the afternoon progresses, the sun moves behind the west side of the stadium, eventually setting there. This orientation typically positions the west side as the “shade side” and the east side as the “sunny side.”
The graphic below shows the approximate location of the sun throughout the day during the first week in April.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Morning Credit One Stadium Matches
Credit One Stadium features a large rectangular roof that overhangs the south side of the venue and extends all the way over the court itself. This is a unique stadium feature that creates interesting shade dynamics.
For a match that starts at 11:00 AM, the only guaranteed shade is in sections 108-110. Seats here are shaded in the morning and for the remainder of the day.
For shade-seekers who only plan to watch the morning match, sections 111-112 and 207-208 in the southwest corner are shaded as the angle of the sun hits the roof and casts a shadow over these sections for an hour or two. However, if a match runs long, fans in these sections may find themselves in the sun by the third set.
Seats in the Sun and Shade at Afternoon Credit One Stadium Matches
Around 1:00 PM, the sun is directly behind the south side of the stadium. Sections 108-110 are the only safely shaded seats at this hour. As time progresses, the sun hits the roof at an angle that starts to cast a shadow over southeast corner sections 106-107 and 204-205.
By 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, the sun is starting to dip and curve behind sections 111-112 and 207-208 in the southwest corner. Fans in this corner now have the sun at their backs and eventually become shaded again. Later in the afternoon, sections 113-117, 209-210, and 307-310 on the west side will also receive shade as the sun dips further.
The most sun-exposed sections are on the north and east sides, specifically sections 101-105, 120-123, 201-203, 212-215, 301-306, and 313-316. The sun is angled directly toward these sections and they are uncovered and exposed to the elements.

Around noon, seats behind the south baseline are comfortably shaded while seats on the sidelines and behind the north baseline are sunny.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Evening Credit One Stadium Events
For Charleston Open night sessions, sun exposure is less of a concern since the sunset is around 7:40 PM in April. However, for summer concerts, with sunsets after 8:30 PM, choosing a shaded seat is important.
By evening, most sections on the south, west, and north sides will be shaded or quickly become so. Sections 108-123, 207-214, and 307-315 are good choices for avoiding the sun. For concerts, pit and floor sections will likely start the show in the shade, though sections on the west side will find shade a bit sooner than those on the east.
The east sideline is the sunniest; the sun will move up the stadium from bottom to top. Lower sections like 101-107 will become shaded first, followed by 201-204. Sections 302-306 on the upper level will have the sun in their faces the longest, making them the least desirable for shade seekers.
