CityPark (often stylized as CITYPARK) is an open-air soccer stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. As the home pitch for St. Louis City SC, it stands as a modern venue designed to offer a top-tier soccer experience. St. Louis is known for its hot and humid summers, making your seat selection key consideration for attending a match. Fans planning to catch a match can consult this guide along with the stadium’s seating chart to find the best shaded seats at CityPark.

Where are the seats in the shade and sun at CityPark?

Typically, shaded seats at CityPark are situated:

  • Along the west sideline
  • Behind the south goal line

Conversely, sunny seats are predominantly found:

  • Along the east sideline
  • Behind the north goal line

Matches at CityPark usually kick off in the evening, though some start in the early or mid afternoon. St. Louis is infamous for its summer heat and humidity and in the summer evening games kickoff before sunset.

CityPark Orientation to the Sun

CityPark’s slightly off-axis north-to-south orientation means the sun is almost directly above the south goal line in the 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM hour. Over the course of the afternoon the sun dips behind the structure on the west side of the stadium. It eventually sets closer to the north goal line.

The graphic below shows the approximate location of the sun throughout the day on July 1st.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Afternoon CityPark Matches

CityPark, similar to other soccer-specific stadiums of its era, features seating on all sides of the pitch with a hollow rectangular roof covering the stands. While the roof helps to keep direct sunlight off many seats, the sun’s position throughout the day means that some sections are more shaded than others.

For 1:00 PM games, the most reliably shaded seats are behind the south goal line in sections 242-251, where the roof offers direct coverage. Seats closer to the pitch in sections 143-150 may start the day in sunlight but will quickly become shaded as the game progresses. On the west sideline, sections 227-241 should enjoy all-day shade, courtesy of the roof. Meanwhile, sections 128-140 are mostly shaded, aside from the rows nearest the pitch in the early part of the day, though these front rows will receive shade later in the afternoon.

The sunniest seats are on the east sideline, particularly in sections 100-110. While upper-level sections 200-211 are beneath the roof, some seats, depending on their specific row and the sun’s position, might still fall in the sun’s path. The supporters’ section behind the north goal line will also be sunny during daytime games.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Evening CityPark Matches

By early evening, the entire west sideline and the goal lines of the stadium will be shaded. East sideline sections 100-110 will remain in sunlight until the sun is low enough to be obscured by the stadium structure on the opposite side. Additionally, fans with sensitive eyes should be careful when selecting seats in upper-level sections 200-211, as these areas will be exposed to the sun until dark.
